The club have gained fishing rights to two new waters as follows:

The Cooper Bridge Cut Canal near Mirfield.

We have the fishing rights for the whole of this short canal above and below Cooper Bridge. This is from Cooper Bridge Lock, under the bridge and up to the next lock. Although we have fishing rights, this canal is for boat mooring so boats have right of way and no anglers have the right to ask a boat to move on in order for them to fish or tell them that they can't moor in their peg.
Parking for this stretch is available on Lower Quarry Road (next to the Total garage) and then access is over the bridge and walking along the tow path along the canal.
This water is on a 6 month trial starting immediately.

Milby Cut Canal, Boroughbridge and River Ure, Boroughbridge.

We have fishing rights to the whole of the canal known as Milby Cut in Boroughbridge on the right hand bank. Along with this water we also have fishing rights to three pegs of the River Ure left hand bank above the weir (directly behind the top of the section of canal).
Parking for this is between the canal and river in the public car park next to the roundabout.
Fishing here also starts immediately.

If anyone has any more questions about these waters please email ask_us@bradfordno1.com.

Maunby, Gatenby and Catton are closed Saturday for a River Swale Preservation Society match.

River Colne/Calder Pollution Update

From the Environment Agency - Leeds

The major explosions and fire at Grovenor Chemicals at Linthwaite has resulted in a major pollution of the River Colne. Already many invertebrates have been killed. The major pollutant is a cocktail of chemicals used in weed killing and glue manufacturing together with a base chemical for making a creosote type liquid, all which is slowly on its way towards the River Calder.
British Waterways has implemented the immediate closure of all lock gates off the Calder as far as Battyford island to try and save the canal system. The chemicals are so strong that officials think that this could end up in the North Sea.
We are continuing to monitor and analyse the samples, from our tests yesterday along a 3km stretch of the River Colne at the point where the incident happened. We found 12 dead fish, some dead inverts - worst affected of the inverts seem to be the snails.
Be aware if anybody has an interest with an angling club or any other water sports this is a lethal chemical cocktail.
If anyone see's any fish in distress please call out incident hotline on 0800 80 70 60.
Peter Michenco, Environment Agency - Leeds (for help & advice and assistance).

All members are reminded that today was the final day of the river fishing season. There was also an open match today at Cowthorpe which was won by Simon Foster with 25lbs. The full result can be found here.

There have been reports off good catches from Raskelf so will be well worth a visit this closed season. Next week there is a working party at Willow Hall and all members are invited to join and help improve this water.

7th March

Finalisation of fish ordering for 2010 was discussed at the March Committee meeting. We are currently sourcing and placing orders for C4 Carp, F1's, Bream, Chub and Trout. Further details will be released shortly in the members only forum around dates and locations for stocking.

Membership figures are very strong, and the web sales have hit their highest figures this month. All new members are welcome (see subscriptions) and all existing members are reminded you must have a 2010 year book before fishing any waters this year - no exceptions. All members must read rules and sign before fishing, last years AGM saw some new rules around landing net size and unhooking mats for anyone fishing for specimen fish - do read these rules. Rivers will close shortly, and anyone venturing to our lakes to target specimens - MUST carry equipment that conforms to these new rules. Can all members ensure that nets are dried out fully at home before bringing them to a club water, it's the best way to reduce the risk of disease.

Rod permits for the EA need renewing at the end of this month too - it is an offence to fish any waters without an EA licence. We have reports on the forum that the EA are carrying out spot checks much more frequently, often visiting the same water 2 or 3 times in a week.

Working party #1 - will be at Willow Hall on Saturday the 20th March, meet at lakeside at 9:30am - a thread will open for this on the forum for anyone wanting more info. Please do attend - we will be carrying out all types of work from litter and branch collection to more standard bank and fishing maintenance type work - it's good fun and we are slowly gathering members on the work parties but the more than turn up, the more we get done, less we spend on 3rd party maintenance and more we can spend on fish.
