Small
well establised lake. The initial stream was dammed to allow water
for the Sam Smiths textile company. Depths vary from 6 to 22 feet. Care
should be taken on the first visit when staking out nets or placing rods
rests as the sides of the dam drop vertically to depths of 16 feet.
The main species targetted are the Roach, there is a massive head of these in
the dam with specimens around the 1lb mark. Perch are also common to around 1lb.
There is also an old stocking of Tench in the lake which can be caught to around
3lb. Bream and Skimmers have been recently stocked plus some establised large
Bream to the 6lb mark are present. There are also around 50 Carp to 20lb.
There is a smaller pond at the top of the hill which can be fished by members,
this is around 1/4 acre with depth to around 10 feet in the middle, similar species
of fish can be found in this pond too.
Pole fished down the margin is best method or waggler/stick fished with meat
or corn catches Carp and Tench. Roach can be caught on light tackle in the edge
on the bottom on pinkie or bread punch. All species can be caught up in the water
with bait sprayed and fished on the drop. last years best Carp was over 19lb
and best noted bag was 36lb of Roach and Bream.
