Roecliffe
bottom is situated above the weir which can be seen from
Boroughbridge Main Street when crossing over the Ure.
Each year this stretch of river sees the mass migration
of the Ure Roach, Skimmers
and Bleak from September onwards.
The length runs for 400 yd's below the A1 bridge to 800 yd's above and holds
approx 60 pegs on the length. Depths vary greatly from
over 20 feet gradually down to
12 feet by the bridge and finally to around 6-8 feet at the end limit approx
300 yd's above the weir.
Fish can be caught from this stretch on the most bitter of days with the simplest
of baits. It is a regular haunt for Pike anglers as the shoals of silver
fish attract many Pike to specimen size. Ledgered worm or caster half to a rod
length out brings Perch to 3lb. Float fished maggot fished on the drop accounts
for Roach and when extra water is running through Bleak to 6 inches can be caught
every cast. Some large Chub and Barbel are present as well as the occasional
Bream to over 5lb.
Lobworm left to long on the bottom can attract one of the many Eels or local
Jacks.
Fish and bites are possible all day, pegs are well maintained. This water is
very occasionally closed for club matches or outside bookings, so check match
page. However, if you do turn up and find the water
closed, we have the stretch opposite too - Langthorpe
