Described
by those who fish it regularly as the River Nidd at it's best !However
this water is not over fished as the initial
walk to the water has been
exaggerated over the years. From car park to the waters edge is no more
than a 3 minute walk, and 15 minutes either way
will see you at the top or bottom limit. This is a stretch of river ideally
suited to either stick float fishing or the feeder. The general size
of the fish is much smaller than other club waters, but
the fish are in abundance. The length offers both deep pools,
slower glides and shallow runs with depths varying from 2 to 6 feet.
Chub, Roach and Dace are abundant plus some amazing sized gudgeon that
actually fight when caught. There
is
one particular peg nicknamed the "animal peg" where heavy line will help
to catch and land the resident Chub and Barbel both can be taken above
the 5lb mark. In the deeper pools huge Pike are found but these
are seldom targeted by the Pike angling members of the club. The River
is very narrow along most of the length and the far bank can almost be
touched with a 20 foot rod, so a stealthy approach is recommend. Matches
are regularly fished on Sundays in July and August, the opposite
bank also has regular matches so it is worth checking the match
dates and local press before venturing out. There are around 50
pegs but due to the lack of attendance clearing of pegs maybe needed.
