RASKELF LAKE - Cormornat scaring and help required for Friday ...

Cormorants have been reported on several occasions this week at Raskelf lake. The birds are visiting at 1st light, and upto 6 have been seen at one time, often drying off after feeding around 6:00am. The Gas gun and the ropes will be being installed again on Friday, if anyone can spare a few hours to assist, please can you contact Simon Foster, as he will be travelling up to Raskelf on his own to set up the equipment, all other committee are either away or working. The recent stockings won't last long - with so much predation on that water - please do all you can. Those that have fished it so far will know what is to lose. If you can spare a couple of hours, please contact simon by phone (number in year book) or on the forum (match sec) he will be happy for any volunteers.

RIPON PONDS - permits required

A note from Andy the bailiff, anyone attending QM ponds needs a permit, if you want to pre bait, then a permit is needed for you to be on the grounds - not having a permit, even if pre baiting will result in loss of year book, and may lead to even longer exclusion from the water or club.

Also have a few complaints about the time it is taking for permits to be returned, Joan (ass T&L sec) asked me to to remind members that her address has changed, you must use the one in the 2008 year book, she is currently getting two or three requests a week dropped in from her old address, but the new owner is getting tired of dropping them off at her new house.

AGAIN - if you can help out at RASKELF please call Simon, your time to do your bit to safe guard some of the best fishing we have ...

thanks - Mark - fisheries officer

21st April

another note from the Forum regarding Raskelf ...

"fished raskelf sunday and monday and what a change from last year the fishing was terrific and me and my dad came away with about 30lb each. fished the orchard end and fished feeder in to more open water than usual and the only fish we had on the pole between us was a cruicen.
most of the fish were f1s and tench with a few ide and cruicens. putting the f1s into the lake was a cracking adea! they put up a good fight for there size and get there heads down to feed!
when we next stock i hope some more of them are on the list! "

and not such a good note about Knotford ...

There are a small number of members who are breaking many of the rules at Knotford Lagoon regarding removal of rubbish, there are other members who must be seeing these anglers leaving pegs and rubbish and in some cases worse than rubbish in their pegs. Please can anyone seeing these members firstly point out the club rules, and failing that, please find car regs or names and pass onto the committee. The rule is leave litter leave the club, and they will. Far, far too much effort has gone in to bring around night fishing (me included !) , which will likely be the 1st thing blamed if this continues, so please, do all you can to highlight these members who are flying in the face of the club rules.

They will ruin it for us all .. do we really need these members, is it worth the risk, so please think before helping them remain nameless...

Knotford will be closed Saturday for night fishing due to the members match on Sunday .. and I hear sport is improving both at Knotford and Kirklees Lagoons aswell..

7th April

All Knotford night permits have been sold

Five night permits are left for Kirklees lagoon.

We are currently accepting new members, follow subscriptions link for more details of costs and where to join.

3rd April

25th March

We have reports of Goosesanders at Raskelf lake, please can any members planning on visiting the fishery over the next few weeks please do all possible to scare these birds off. It has taken a lot of effort and cost a small fortune to restock the fishery this year - for those that can remember the season we had last year after a month of fish eating bird visits. The birds are congregating at the Orchard end, away from the scarers, but the recent stock check we had, showed that is where all the crucians lie up over the cold period ..

again please .. do all you can, it is up to us all to protect this fishery ... let's not all leave it up to the odd few ..

The final order of coarse fish will be delivered in the next week, approx 3,000 Ide 6 -8 " which won't last long with the Goosesanders on the lake ..

Gallery also updated ... please send in any angling or venue photos you have .. we will add what we can ..

11th March

For those out there who are really keen or for those of you that want to get involved and put a bit back then now's your chance. Next Sunday the 16th March there will be a working party at Raskelf and the following Sunday there will be another at Gratrix Lane dam . The aim is to clean up the venues and re pare/clear the footpaths and fix the broken platforms. Both working parties meet on site at approx 09:30 and everybody is welcome.

10th March - quote about Raskelf from the forum

"Fished Raskelf on Saturday. Weather not too bad but a bit windy and fished on the far side at Peg 38. Friend of mine fished Peg 40. Fished Swing tip& maggot feeder & Kenny fished Waggler. Nothing for about 45 minutes then a bite on the feeder. Missed it but it was a start. Missed the next two and by this time Kenny had thrown the waggler rod behind him and was quickly tacking up the tip & feeder. Started to hit the bites and for the rest of the day it was F1 after F1. Both of us getting a bite a chuck. Had to change the feeder to open ended filled with groundbait as we were using too many maggots. Didn't make any difference. They just kept on feeding. Single red, double red, double white, red & white. Not sure how many fish we caught but I had 30lb and Kenny's net broke when we tried to weigh it but estimated about 45lb. Only reason we called it a day was because a storm blew in with strong winds, hail and rain. Pity really, as while we were tackling down it passed over and became quite calm. Oh, we both had a small Barbel about 8" long. "

1st March

We are receiving a lot of questions from members wanting to renew in 2008. Any member who had membership in 2007, can renew at anytime upto 31st Dec in 2008, but you must have this years year book before you fish an association water. Membership can be renewed prior to fishing until the end of the year, that is unless we hit our full quota of members - at which point we will not be able to take new or renew anymore of last years members.

There are still a handfull of night permits available for Kirkless Lagoon.

Reports on the Forum are mentioning Bream to 8 1/2 lb are being caught on night sessions at Knotford, Members are not permitted to night fish without prior purchase of a night permit.

13th February

As the water warms up, fish will spawn, and as a natural process some fatalities will occur.

Please can you report any fish fatalities to any official or email to

ask_us@bradfordno1.com

When reporting, please can you include

Species, Size of fish, number of fish, state of decomposition, any physical damage etc, also if possible please pay particular attention to the eye of the fish, as we can tell how long since it expired.

We are also down to the last night permits for Kirklees lagoon.

The "bird" scaring equipment has been installed at Raskelf, and we have been lucky with very few visits reported, many thanks to all those attending and scaring off the birds over winter, I am sure it will pay dividends this coming season - thanks from us all.

Bradford No1 AA have also joined the Anglers Conservation Association

-----STOP Press ----- ( Well ok actually it was to late..)

With all the new year books printed and now in the shops it has been noted that one of the proposals that actually was defeated at the AGM has made it in to the book.

The rule requiring all anglers use barbless hooks at Raskelf WILL NOT be enforced by the associations bailiffs and corrections will be made for the 2009 book.

Notices will be posted at Raskelf in an attempt to stop any confusion this may cause.

There are two entries to the fishery, a near peg car park has details in the year book
