18th June

Been a while since we updated, hope some of you have been out and had some River fun this week - if you did - don't forget our gallery and it's need for pictures. We get more pictures later on the season, but very few from this time of year - so any with leaves on the trees will be good for the gallery - and remind members what summer was later in the year.

There is the Raskelf Juniors Match next Satruday and the officials Match at the same lake on Sunday next week too - so the lake is closed both Sat and Sun (27th and 28th)

Any Juniors wanting to fish Raskelf or Shelf Dam matches (both stocked this year) should ring Simon Foster on 01274 571175 to arrange in advance.

We are taking many new members - and this year our membership is very strong indeed, but we still have places available - you can join on line with a credit card now, purchasing new, renewals, 2nd rods and all the different types of membership available - even map books, which we have had our best ever sales on this year.

The AGM is set of October again this year - so any changes need to be submitted atleast one month in advance. I am sure there will be some new and older proposals aired again.

All new members are invited to join the Forum, where you can pick up some fantastic info on waters, methods and general banter.

On a more serious note, sadly littering has become a major problem on several waters - our bailiffs are out in force now, not only looking for non licence holders but also members dropping litter. The club rule is - leave litter leave the club - this will be enforced as ever, we have had already banned some members for littering, there is no excuse - take it home. Do you know how much litter needs to be left for the association to lose or risk losing a water ... on some waters we may only get warned over a few incidents, then lose our leases or access - so please help, also if you see litter can the more decent of us, pick it up.

Special thanks go out to Dave and his bailiffs - what an excellent job they are doing, in some very challenging times - Knotford and Kirklees have had major cleanups over these last years and look very well presented waters again - well done guys.

and Finally - with the summer on us, can all members keep a watchfull eye on waters for both poaching and any signs of fish in distress - this can happen as the days become longer, and weather condition lead to a lack of oxygen in the water - any signs of fish in difficulties - please call a number in the book.

Willow Hall has had some major work carried out on lifting the crowns of the surrounding trees, this is phase one of a project to increase the pegs numbers on this water - why not pop in and have a look or wet a line, we stocked it end of last year with small carp and Ide, so it should be fishing about now.

18th May

A huge thanks to everybody so far this year that has used our online sales feature. Unfortunately for the next week or so delivery's will be slower than normal due to me being out of the country for a week. The service will remain open as usual and as long as you take your Pay Pal receipt with you you can enjoy your fishing. Normal service will be resumed in June.

23rd April

Map books, 2nd Rod permits, new memberships, renewals are available online now.

Posted next business day, and all transactions are by Pay PAL - the same as most Ebay transactions.

Don't forget Junior books for the whole year are only £5 !

3rd April

Island is closed until further notice at Ripon ponds Big Lake - no fishing from Island until further notice. This is due to nesting birds on the island.

Working party on Sunday will be at Shelf Dam - meet 10am

General cleanup and weed control on the small pond

10th March

Sundays Match at Cowthorpe now added and well done to James Vickerman who romped it with 22lb of Chub. Next match is at Rawcliffe Bridge on the Aire & Calder Navigation on the 19th April. This is a new venue for Bfd No1 matches so it should be interesting. Directions can be found in the waters section or click here Tickets as usual can be obtained by calling Simon on 01274 571175.

24th February

Sundays Match results from Beal added to the match section. Next Match is on Sunday 8th March at Cowthorpe. This is an Open match and available to everybody so if you are browsing this thinking you would like to come fish a No1 water and your not a member then give Simon a call on 01274 571175 to book a ticket.

Thanks to Bob Newby who pointed out that the directions to Rawcliffe Bridge on the Aire and Calder were wrong. These have now been corrected.

17th February

The fish arrived and a big thanks to the members and committee that turned up to introduce the fish. Hope you all found time to have some laughs in between the lumping of tench and bream to kirklees. That's a small taste of what life on the committee is like - could you do it ? bear it in mind for next October. The committee is lacking individuals like you guys.

I couldn't make yet another stocking, so am waiting to see as many piccies as we can get please.

A special thanks to Mick Jolly our Knotford Bailiff (Mr Mick from the forum) who organized things as point of contact on the Bradford lakes end

16th February

We have had contact from our fish supplier. We are taking the delivery of the Bream and Tench for Kirklees and Bfd lakes this week, a week early. He has booked in for Wednesday this week.

We have rough confirmed delivery times - so anyone wanting to take part in the stocking (Wed PM) - can you mail again please, I had quite a few offers before, but that was a month ago.

It is long hike to the water, and we need to split the loads into many dustbins - so anyone who can help, please shout up. Everyone attends at their own risk.

The fish will be dropped in the following order

2:00pm very approx - Shelf Dam, then to Willow Hall, Gratrix Lane and onto Kirklees Lagoon - where he expects to arrive around 3:30pm

Earlier the same morning a drop will take place of some smaller tench to Raskelf and also Queen Mary's to attempt a turn over in the brood stock - times are not defined yet - email me if you would like to attend and help (bearing in mind permits for QM)

6th February

Meeting update added for Feb. 2009

26th January

Bradford No1 have received granted consents for the stocking of Ide on Thursday.

2750 Ide Raskelf Lake

1000 Ide Willow Hall lake

500 Ide Shelf Dam Lake

500 Ide Gratrix Lane Dam

We are currently arranging delivery of Tench and skimmer bream for Queen Mary's ponds, Willow Hall, Royds Hall, Shelf Dam

We are also wanting to make a drop of skimmers and tench at Kirklees Lagoon, but need some assistance to get the fish to the water quickly. Our supplier can only deliver on weekday mornings, so we need some (approx 10) volunteers to help carry fish from carp park to lake.

Would anyone available please contact ask_us@bradfordno1.com, it will likely be a morning.

Yesterdays match result from Cowthorpe now in results section

25th January

It was nice to see two new Junior members down at Knotford today, going was very hard, don't let it put you off lads. The local bailiff went through the rules and gave some good tips.

According to our web sales, we have had a good response to the new Junior price of £5 - all memberships can be purchased on line(apart from night permits)

All Knotford permits sold out on 3rd Jan, but we do still have night permits left for Kirklees Lagoon (not available on the internet, you must contact Jon Sparks).

The fish for Harold Park, Willow Hall and Raskelf lake were all delivered on Friday morning, apologies if anyone attended and missed the drop. This particular farmer always gets to the venues earlier than estimated.

On Thursday pending consent from the EA, we will be expecting a delivery of IDE (common orfe) these will be introduced to Shelf Dam, Willow Hall, Gratrix Lane and Raskelf Lake - we are expecting just short of 5000 fish, and will be split proportionate to lake size. I am not sure of times for delivery as yet, this supplier is traveling from Lincolnshire.

We have had to Ban all new registrants on the forum with a Gmail mail account, if you have a Gmail account or are currently registered with the forum with a Gmail account, please contact us at

ask_us@bradfordno1.com, this was due to many false registrations for Spam mailing.

22nd January

We have received the consent from the environment agency to stock Harold Park and Willow Hall this coming week (tomorrow 10am onwards meet Harold Park). There maybe some delay in the arrival of our fish supplier, as he is visiting Raskelf lake 1st.

We plan to stock

1000 8 - 10" F1 carp into Harold Park

1200 4 - 6" F1 carp in to Willow Hall lake

1200 4 - 6" F1 carp in to Raskelf lake.

We currently have applications for the introduction of Ide into Willow Hall, Shelf Dam and Gratrix lane (to be stocked if approved, next Thursday)

We still have outstanding orders of Tench, Bream and Roach expected end of Jan / Early Feb. for

Queen mary's ponds, Kirklees Lagoon, Shelf Dam and Raskelf Lake.

Bradford No1 would like to thank the Friends of Harold Park and Bradford council recreation dept, for their support in the stocking of the small carp. This has been done in conjunction with the reduction in cost of the Junior book to only £5. Please look at our on line sales, could you maybe spend a fiver on a junior .. and give them a new way of spending their spare time ?

The Forum is currently closed for some urgent maintenance work.

19th January

Online sales are buzzing at the minute and we an army of people licking, sticking and packing envelopes like mad, Map books especially seem to be flying off the shelf. Ever wondered where that venue was that you are always hearing about or just exactly where is the access ?

Pictures of Steve and Laura catches at Knotford added to the gallery no's 14 - 17

14th January

2nd delivery of Roach and Bream today at Raskelf - total delivered was approx 1,200lb in the end. Paperwork has been submitted for stockings at several bradford lakes (Willow Hall, Harold Park, Shelf Dam and Gratrix Lane) - more info will follow, subject to Environment agency approval.

13th January

Phase one of the stocking session at Raskelf took place today, the second delivery will be tomorrow. Today's fish consisted of Bream to 4lb and many 4 - 10oz Roach. We are expecting approx 2,000lb of fish this week.

Sadly the occasion was spoilt by finding that both the bird scar ers had been damaged, nothing more than vandalism. The incident has been reported to North Yorkshire police, and they are attending site. If anyone has seen individuals at Raskelf in the vicinity of the gas guns or causing damage, we ask them to contact North York's police and report the individuals, also any future incidents can be reported to the Police on the following number 0845 60 60 24 7, especially if you can get a registration and description of their vehicle. These individuals if members, would be quite happy to damage the scar ers for a days peaceful fishing or fun, and leave the water totally at the mercy of the fish eating pests. Those that remember Raskelf early last year will remember all too well what state the fishery was left after their feeding visits.

On a better note - we have had a new delivery of map books, so have lots of everything to offer on our internet sales page.

Just go to the subscriptions page and follow the link. You can pay with your Pay Pal account or a card if you don't have one.

7th January

There is one remaining night permit for Knotford Lagoon, and 12 left for Kirklees Lagoon.

3rd January

Happy new year to all our new members and those re joining for 2009.

The forum has the usual new year questions about joining and when members need to renew.

Members who held a year book in 2008, have up till the 31st of December this year to renew their books - so long as you renew before the end of 2009 you have no need to rejoin. However, if the club fills up, then you run the risk of having to join the waiting list - as new members can join from 1st Jan this year. Also anyone wanting to fish in 2009, must have a 2009 year book before visiting any Bradford no1 water.

Don't forget all Juniors - under 17 can join and fish for a year for £5

17th December

It is with sadness we have to announce the death of David Chapman aged 56. He was a long standing member of the club. David, from Bradford, loved his river fishing; he was always chasing that elusive big Barble at Cowthorpe. He will be sadly missed by many, especially his fishing buddy and son Steven.
